Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
How many times have you said it or heard someone say it, “I can live a Christian life without going to church”? Why is it that some believers choose not to go to church? I’ve heard many different reasons over the years; “The church is full of hypocrites”, “I was done wrong in a church years ago and I’m not putting myself through that again”, “I need some time to sleep in”. What does God say about us going to church or not going to church?
The Bible makes it very clear that we are supposed to have fellowship with other believers. Above, you see what Paul said and how it is translated in the New Living Translation of the Bible. “Let us not neglect our meeting together.” The King James says, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.” God did not intend on you walking this life alone.
Matthew 18:19, 20 (NLT)
19 “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. 20 For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
It only takes two people to have a church. Our country is filled with mega-churches but the average church is much smaller. According to the National Congregations Study, in 2006 and 2007, the average size of a Christian church in the United States was 75 people! [a]
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT)
9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
The Apostle John wrote, “Now this is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him” (1 John 5:14–15). John also wrote, “And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight” (1 John 3:22).
