Mountain Stream - Near Taos, New Mexico 1992

Toyo 4x5 View Camera     Lens: Rodenstock 150mm     Film: Kodak TMax 100

When I was young, my father used to take the family to the Rocky Mountains in the summer for vacation. We would either go to northern New Mexico or southern Colorado. Because of those vacations, I developed a love for nature and for the mountains. In 1992 I was living on the Gulf Coast of Texas and I had just acquired a Toyo 4x5 view camera and an old, beat-up Beseler enlarger. I had a real desire to photograph in the mountains with the view camera so my son and I took a week long camping trip to New Mexico and Colorado. The first half of the trip it rained so much that I could'nt even build a fire. I had a small Toyota pickup with a fiberglass shell and that is where we slept each night. It was cold and miserable but my love for the mountains overcame that. We camped just outside of Taos, New Mexico next to this creek. It had been dark and dreary but late in the afternoon, the sun popped out and I was able to capture this image. It is still one of my favorites.
