Mineral Runoff - Crystal Geyser - Green River, Utah
Mineral Runoff - Crystal Geyser - Green River, Utah

Toyo 4x5 View Camera     Lens: Rodenstock 150mm     Film: Kodak TMax 100

Years ago there was an article in Popular Mechanics magazine which said the U.S. Government had moved Area 51 to the desert near Green River, Utah. I had spent a lot of time exploring the desert in taht area and I knew that the article was not true. I did find some old buildings and an old missle base. After doing some research I found that the government did launch missles from Green River down to White Sands Missle Range in New Mexico. They stopped launching missles after the public expressed their concern about missles flying over their heads. While in that area, I ran across Crystal Geyser. Apparently a water well was drilled about 150 feet from the Green River. The casing is still in the hole and about every eight hours the geyser erupts. I only got to see it happen once and it shot about 60 to 80 feet in the air. The water runs down the hill into the river and after all these years, it has left these colorful mineral deposits.
