In 1979, a man using the pseudonym of Robert C. Christian approached the Elberton Granite Finishing Company and some banks across the country for financing to erect a granite monument in Elbert County, Georgia. No one has ever exposed who this gentleman was or for what reason the granite monument was erected. All kinds of theories exist for the monument's existence. Some say it was built by the Illuminati, some say aliens have something to do with it. A local man told me, a few years ago, that it was all a practical joke. If it was a practical joke, it was an expensive one. There are four vertical columns surrounding a center column with a capstone on top of them. They are all carved from granite. A hole is drilled in the center post which looks directly to Polaris, the north star. Another hole, drilled through the center column looks directly east and west on the summer equinox. The monument is taller than England's Stonehenge, standing at 19 feet 3 inches (5.87 m) tall, made from six granite slabs weighing 237,746 pounds (107,840 kg) in all. On each of the eight sides of the monument is the same thing written in eight different languages, English, , Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Traditional Chinese, and Russian. The message written in the eight languages says:
