Has
the United States Government Moved Area 51?
I
Don't Think So, and I'll Show You Why!
- Page One -
What
is Area 51?
Area
51 is a part of Nellis Airforce Range in Nevada. The United
States denies that it exists. Apparently it has been used as
a test range for America's most top secret aircraft since World
War II. The Groom Lake facility (as it is also called) is not
open to the public. There are signs at the entrance warning
that deadly force will be used to keep people out. There are
listening devices on the mountains surrounding the base. Armed
guards patrol the base 24 hours a day. Until a few short years
ago a person could climb up one of the surrounding mountains
and see the base at a distance. The Air Force has moved the
borders out further now and it is not possible to get a good
view of the base anymore.
Who
said Area 51 had moved?
Popular
Mechanics magazine's science editor ran an article in June 1997
claiming that Area 51 had been moved. He stands by his story
irregardless of the proof that it has not been moved.
To
where does Popular Mechanics Magazine say Area 51 has moved?
The
magazine claims that Area 51 has been moved to an abandoned
missle base south of the town of Green River, Utah.
What
makes you so sure Area 51 hasn't moved?
There
are several reasons
1.
The old missle base that Popular mechanics refers to is located
only a mile or so south of Interstate 70 and approximately 4
miles southeast of Green River. The U.S. government would not
put a TOP-SECRET test site this close to a populated area.
2.
The old missle base lies within an area referred to on aeronautical
charts as R-6413. This is a restricted flight area. Pilots can
fly over the area unless there has been a notice to airmen (NOTAM)
given 24 hours prior to the missle base's use. For an area as
TOP-SECRET as Area 51, there would be no civilian aircraft allowed
to fly over it.
3.
I have taken my four wheel drive pickup all through that area
and have never seen any military activity.
4.
NOW, THE REAL PROOF!!! I have photographs taken after Popular
Mechanic's article came out showing that the missle base is
still abandoned and not in use!
R-6413
was a part of White Sands Missle Range in New Mexico. The
base was used to launch missles to White Sands. I have heard
from people that the base was in use until, at least, the
mid 1960's. One person wrote me and said that some of the
buildings look to have been built as late as the 1970's.
On
May 30, 1998 my son and I drove to Green River, Utah from
Salt Lake City and photographed the base. The gates to the
main compound were unlocked. The missle base has been vandalized
very heavily and there were no signs of any plans to restore
the base.
About
three miles southeast of Green River, Utah are three buildings
on the south side of the paved road. Each has locked gates
and signs saying they contain explosives.
|
This
building is about 1/2 mile west of the gated missle
complex and about 1/4 mile south of the paved road.
There is no fence around it or locked gate. This may
have been used for launching weather balloons.
|
|
The
road continues past an intersection that will take you
south and west to Crystal Geyser. The missle complex
is fenced but the gate is not locked. |
|
This
appears to be the launching pad and rocket hangar at
the missle complex. |
|
This
looks like an old control room. |
|
This
is the entrance to the old control
room. I didn't have a flash with me so I didn't take
any photos inside. It has been vandalized heavily and
there is not much left inside. |

Covered
cable trays go to different points in the missle complex. |
