Back in the plains, those hot dusty plains
I married my wife and raised my family
A tornado came and took my wife away
Early in the spring of '93
Sometimes my heart hurts and tears fill my eyes
When they ask if they'll see her again
I don't know the truth of what will ever be
But I give an answer and smile back at them
Joey's getting tall and Kim's growing up
They don't stay small very long
It breaks my heart when I think about their mom
But I'm so weak and they seem so strong
When you love somebody like I loved her
It rips out your heart and leaves you cold
How can two become one
Then tragedy strikes and its all undone?
Each night I pray, when I go to bed
I pray, now I lay me down to sleep
Why couldn't I have been taken instead
Forever the Lord my soul to keep
