I still remember driving down Route 66
in my daddy’s ’63 Chevrolet
The road & the tires made their own melody
It was click and clack all the way

I was just a little boy in those days
but I loved to take a ride in that old car
Nowdays 66 is just a memory
as most good things in life always are

Now its been a long time since I moved away
Sometimes I want to go back
And drive down some remnants of 66
Sing my songs to that old click and clack

The Interstate highway came and took its place
Not much of the mother road remains
I guess lots of things in the world have changed
And they’ll never be the same again

So many things you see along that road
We take a trip, its time to fly
Roadside attractions and funny motels
Everybody had to try and get by

Now my little boy is about the same age
As I was way back then
This summer I’m taking him back with me
To drive down that road again
