Rebelcaster – Heritage Collection
|
The Rebelcaster — a handcrafted tribute to the men who fought and fell for the ideals of the South. Finished in satin gray to echo the uniforms worn in battle, with all‑black hardware symbolizing their grit and resolve. A scratch‑resistant Confederate battle‑flag pickguard completes the design. Built for players of any level, from seasoned professionals to dedicated amateurs. |
|
In late 1861, the now‑familiar red flag with a blue St. Andrew’s cross and white stars was adopted as the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, not as the national flag. It was a practical military identifier, used so soldiers could tell friend from foe in combat. |
Heritage & Inspiration
This guitar was built in memory of the ordinary Southern men who took up arms believing they were defending their homes and their country. Many marched into battle with the now‑legendary Rebel Yell — a fierce, high‑pitched cry meant to shake the confidence of their opponents and send a chill through the lines. Soldiers who heard it described it as something that could “scare the bejesus out of you” long before the fighting even began.
The Rebelcaster honors that history — acknowledging the hardship, the fear, the conviction, and the humanity of the men who lived it.
A custom Confederate battle‑flag pickguard and a laser‑engraved neck plate featuring a lone soldier complete the theme, grounding the instrument in its historical narrative.
From Enemies to Brothers Again
One of the most powerful parts of Civil War history came after the guns fell silent. Veterans from both the North and the South routinely held reunions where they shared stories, shook hands, embraced, and lived as reunited brothers. Men who once faced each other across a battlefield later sat together under the same tents, remembering the past and honoring each other’s courage.
The Rebelcaster carries that spirit — not division, but remembrance. Not conflict, but reconciliation. It stands as a piece of playable Americana, built to honor the human story behind the history.
A Guitar With a Voice and a Legacy
The Rebelcaster is more than an instrument. It is a story carved into wood and steel.
• It’s a handcrafted memorial.
• A conversation piece.
• A professional‑grade guitar built to be played, displayed, and passed down.
• Hand‑built with pride.
• Rooted in history.
• Made to be heard |

Built by luthier Jay McMullan of Old 36 Guitar Works, the Rebelcaster honors their grit, sacrifice, and the complicated human story behind the era. This guitar is not about politics — it is about the people who carried the weight of history on their shoulders. The Rebelcaster stands as the Southern chapter of the Old 36 Heritage Line, celebrating resilience, craftsmanship, and the American spirit.
Crafted With Purpose
The Rebelcaster begins with a solid mahogany body, chosen for its warmth, sustain, and rich midrange voice. A hand‑carved armrest adds comfort and a custom‑shop feel, while the body is finished in a high‑gloss Arctic Gray — a subtle nod to the cotton uniforms worn by Southern soldiers, many of whom were everyday working men who never expected to find themselves on a battlefield.
A Neck Built for Players
The 22‑fret maple neck features a glossy fretboard for clarity and snap, paired with a satin‑finished back for smooth, fast playing. Black fret markers tie into the guitar’s all‑black hardware theme, creating a unified, modern aesthetic that feels as good as it looks.

Construction
 |
All guitar cavities are shielded with copper tape. Then, the back of the pickguard is covered with the tape so that it touches the tape from the cavities making a complete Faraday cage, eliminating noise and hum. |
Every Rebelcaster begins with a solid mahogany body, where the arm rest is patiently hand‑carved for comfort and a natural, broken‑in feel. The wood is then sealed, primed, painted, and clear‑coated, building up a durable finish that’s later buffed to a mirror shine.
Once the body is complete, every control cavity is fully lined with copper shielding, and the bridge pickup is properly grounded to ensure a quiet, no‑hum performance even under stage lights. The Bootstrap pickups and premium electronics are installed with precision, giving the guitar its articulate, responsive voice.
A Canadian maple neck with a smooth maple fretboard and a double‑action truss rod is fitted for long‑term stability and effortless playability. Locking tuners are installed to guarantee rock‑solid tuning and quick string changes.
The guitar is then strung with Fender 10‑gauge strings and finished with black strap buttons, completing the instrument’s sleek, unified aesthetic.
Final Touches & Playability
Every Rebelcaster is meticulously set up by hand to ensure fast, smooth action and a responsive feel across the entire fretboard. The neck is dialed in for comfort and stability, the intonation is carefully matched, and the hardware is adjusted for optimal performance. From the first chord to the final bend, the guitar feels alive — balanced, expressive, and ready for the stage or studio.
The Rebelcaster doesn’t just look the part. It plays like a true custom‑shop instrument — clear, articulate, versatile, and built to inspire.
A tribute to history. A tool for today. A piece of Old 36 heritage built to be played, remembered, and passed down.
